Good things are happening…this in particular:
Johnny is now selling his work at a jewelry atelier and boutique called Love & Luxe! We came across the shop while walking around the Mission District during our first ever visit to San Francisco (loved it by the way). Quick turn onto Valencia (after eating as much butter, sugar and flour-based goodness from Tartine as possible) and we caught our first glimpse of Love & Luxe. The space is ridiculous: it’s minimal and clean aesthetic paired with beautiful wood floors left us with no other choice but to walk in (and don’t even get me going on the antique display cases…incredible). The owner, Betsy Barron, sells her own work in addition to other jewelers and artisans, local to worldwide. You can even catch a glimpse of her rockin’ studio in the back while you’re perusing all the gush-worthy jewelry.
We’re heading up that way during our October break so Johnny can install a display case he’s in the process of building for the shop. This thing is nuts: it’s made out of walnut, has gorgeous dove tailed edges, and will open with a sliding pulley system that has a counter balance made out of a burly chunk of walnut- for anyone who knows Johnny, it’s so his style. I’ll be sure to post photos once it’s up and running.
He sent Betsy quite the package the other day containing custom handmade earring displays and salvaged wood jewelry boxes, plus a variety of his work. She documented the opening process on Love & Luxe’s Facebook Page. Check it out right here.
